JOB TITLE: Dietary Aide

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

DIVISION: Dietary Department

RATE: $12.00 - $17.48 per hour

Status: Full-Time or Part-Time

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of the A.M. and/or P.M. Cook’s Helper is to assist the Cook in meal preparation, using safe and sanitary food handling procedure; perform clean-up duties in the dining room and wash dishes in time for meal service.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Assist the Cook in meal preparation including portioning cold foods, preparing and serving salads and desserts: food products served must be appetizing.

2. Perform cleanup and dish washing duties.

3. PM Cook makes HS snacks not previously ordered and delivers snacks in afternoon.

4. Set up cold trays for the Senior Living Center and make coffee, ice tea and water.

5. Perform other duties as assigned, such as posting temperature on charts.

6. Participate on committees and attend meetings as assigned.

7. Provide feedback to management regarding performance improvement priorities.

8. Demonstrate a positive customer service attitude.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

No specific education level is required; however, must be able to read, write, comprehend and follow written and oral instructions and have enough knowledge of arithmetic to break down or increase recipes to maintain the correct proportions. Previous foodservice experience is helpful. Nursing home/hospital experience preferred. Must have acceptable KBI record check.

 

SKILLS:

Must be able to organize work to have food ready on time and attractively served; know or be willing to learn about modified diets, special requirements of individual patients and residents. Must be able to operate kitchen appliances/equipment.

 

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

Commercial ranges, refrigerators, dishwashers, food prep appliances.

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL/ MENTAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to stand most of the day and lift at least 40 lbs. May have corrected hearing and vision. Must be able to concentrate and work with frequent interruptions. Uses independent judgment in making decisions. Must be able to prepare food, process paperwork and move about the department and building on daily basis. Must be neat and clean in personal habits and appearance. Must comply with Dietary dress code. Position is on call for emergencies after hours.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Department can be hot when stoves are in use. Hours are flexible as required to cover all aspects of Dietary service, usually falling between the hours of 6:00 am and 7:00 pm. The employee works in an environment with biological, chemical and mechanical hazards. The employer will provide appropriate training, protective equipment and engineering controls for the protection and safety of the employee. As a condition of employment the employee is required to abide by all risk management regulations including the proper use of protective devices and procedures.
