At F.W. Huston Medical Center, the Rehabilitation Therapy team is able to utilize Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy to improve many ailments caused by:

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy (PT) is focused on helping individuals recover, improve movement, maintain physical function and/or mobility, and increase overall well-being. Physical Therapy utilizes a combination of exercises, stretches and movements that increase strength, flexibility, and mobility.

Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on improvement in patients' ability to perform daily tasks, assisting them in living as self-sufficiently as possible. Occupational therapy helps improve the ability to perform tasks (occupations).

 

With the assistance of Occupational Therapy, treatment can assist in the ease of patients' ability to safely:

  • Get dressed.

  • Take medication.

  • Shop for groceries.

  • Use a computer or other technology.

Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of communication, swallowing, and cognitive disorders. Speech Therapy can help patients express thoughts and understand what people are saying to them. This program can also improve skills like memory and ability to solve problems.
